Name: Justin Baruch
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Birthday: June 30, 1972
Preferred PB: John Barrowman
Occupation: Chief of Medicine and CEO of Caduceus Institutepart time zookeeper
Appearance: Justin has the kind of face you'd want a heart surgeon to have. You know, the one who's about to perform your life-threatening quadruple bypass surgery. He exudes competence and sympathy to an almost unnatural degree, and his default expression (at least as far as his employees and business partners know) is a restrained, professional smile. He is most often seen working, and so is usually only spotted dressed quite formally. In contrast to his pressed-picture-perfect clothing (at least in the beginning of the day), his hair is always just slightly mussed and he carries about him an air of don't-worry-you-can-still -touch. His overall appearance and carriage is what the people who coined the term "business-casual" dreamed they looked like in the clothes that used to be de rigeur for professionals; you only wish you looked that good in Armani suits (even with a few cat hairs on them). During his rare downtime (or late at night when no one else is at the office), he tones it down, to the utter shock of the late-night-shift interns as they walk in on him looking at X-rays without his suit jacket on. Employees who run into him at cafes after his early morning jog tend not to recognize him. He has incredibly expressive eyes and a mouth that shifts smoothly from emotion to emotion, though with no guarantee of complete candor; he's gotten too cautious/paranoid for that.
Personality: Justin inspires confidence and trust, mostly. Animals and little children tend to like him on sight, which makes him a perfect drop-off point for whatever strange new thing Ferri-Lou has picked up on her most recent adventure, as well as the various strays that he picks up on his own. He feels great responsibility towards whatever he considers to be under his care; this category includes whatever animals are currently in his house, his company and employees, and his friends, past and present.
Most notable about him is his strong sense of responsibility and morality. He has a clear-cut, well-defined code of right and wrong for himself; though it may not mesh exactly with any formally accepted moral code, he has boundaries and limits - he will go only this far and no further. His strong sense of justice often gets him into all kinds of trouble.
Justin isn't a very difficult person to get along with. He has a rather varied sense of humor, and if you ever get to know him well enough, you'll never know quite what to expect from him.
History: He spent almost all his formative years with a certain fellow CEO of the unpronounceable last name. More on this later.
His years in higher education were spent more or less goofing off on his merit-based scholarship. He took whichever class caught his fancy, acted or sang in just about every one of the school's drama productions, and then had to take two extra years to graduate when it was discovered that had about 8 minors in vastly different fields (ranging from Musical theater to Computer Science to Genetics) and no actual major. He passed his medical school examinations with flying colors and through a series of rather interesting events, also involving that CEO, ended up where he is now.
It is the right of every child to make a few very bad decisions, out of ignorance, inexperience, etc. Justin and Stepan were in the same preschool class, where they bonded over Justin's 64-color box of crayons because Stepan had eaten all of his own and was nearly in tears because no one else would lend them to him (even now, after the Incident, he still reminds him of that on occasion). They were more or less inseparable from that point on, with Justin (the more outgoing and social type of person, particularly since he was in so many of the exhibitionist types of activities, such as soloing in the school choir and drama productions) dragging Stiva with him everywhere. After high school, Stiva pursued his purely business-related fields of study, while Justin flitted from subject to subject like a demented bee in a clover field. Stiva graduated early and quickly worked his way up through the ranks of Umbrella Corporation. When Justin finally got out of medical school, Stiva had already clawed his way to the top of Umbrella, and after an amusing and completely unnecessary interview, hired Justin as his Chief of Medicine. Four years later, Justin left UCorp for Caduceus.
Abilities/Weapons/Accessories: If this were some kind of RPG (aha), Justin would definitely be the support character. He didn't go through medical school for nothing, after all. As a doctor, he knows the importance of staying healthy and fit, but is more or less useless in actual life-threatening combat, outside of the serious damage he can do while apparently flailing around randomly. Basically, he'll land a few lucky (and anatomically vital - possible temporary paralysis) hits and then probably need to be rescued, but if you're bleeding out of your eyes, he's the best person to go to.
Alliance: Caduceus Institute, with tenuous ties to Umbrella Corporation. Currently unaware of the actual existence of The Others, but will probably come down heavily on the side of stealing/formulating a cure.
